She was 73. Oster came to Yale in 1974 as a member of the economics faculty. At SOM, where she taught economics and nonprofit strategy, she was the first woman awarded tenure and the first to serve as dean. “It would be impossible to overstate Sharon’s role in shaping the distinctive mission and culture of the school,” said SOM professor Judith Chevalier ’89. “Sharon always held the view that the school’s role in training leaders for all sectors—business, nonprofits, and government—was a defining feature of the school.” Stepping downSchool of Nursing dean Ann Kurth will leave Yale after the fall semester to become president of the New York Academy of Medicine. Kurth, an epidemiologist and clinically trained nurse midwife who has been dean since 2015, has “leveraged her expertise to expand YSN’s global reach, enhance the school’s curriculum, and increase access to a nursing education,” President Peter Salovey ’86PhD wrote in announcing her departure. Kurth will be the first non-physician to lead the academy, which is a 175-year-old health policy and advocacy group. AppointedJoining Yale’s ranks of head coaches this year are Dalila Eshe, for women’s basketball, and Marat Israelian, for fencing. Eshe, an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Princeton for the last three seasons, succeeds Allison Guth, who left this spring to become head coach at Loyola University Chicago. Israelian joined Yale as an assistant coach in 2019 and was appointed interim head coach last season after the departure of Haibin Wang.
