Bauhaus at 100
The School of Architecture is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus, the ever-influential multidisciplinary Modernist design school, with a series of academic initiatives. This fall, the symposium “My Bauhaus: Trans-Medial Encounters” will examine the legacy of the institution and its key members through trans-disciplinary workshops and presentations, including a textile workshop and the viewing of Bauhaus-related documents at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. A small exhibition will showcase work from the fall 2018 course Experimenting with Experiments: Bauhaus @ 100 taught by Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen and Trattie Davies, which resurrected the Bauhaus’s avant-garde design exercises and drawing techniques for a new generation of students.
Less talk, more action
In September, the Yale School of Architecture is cohosting the fall 2019 conference of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture in conjunction with Stanford University’s undergraduate architectural design program. Convened around the theme “Less Talk/More Action,” the conference will gather architectural educators from around the country to discuss purpose-driven pedagogy, methods of making the design professions more inclusive, the ethics of design culture, and architecture’s role beyond academic contexts.
