School of architecture

Celebrating four decades of teaching

The school celebrated faculty member Turner Brooks ’65, ’70MArch, on April 22, on the occasion of 40 years of teaching at Yale. Alumni gathered to give tributes to Brooks, and many participated in a group drawing exercise based on his course Drawing Projects. In addition to teaching, Brooks is a successful architect who is noted for his design of homes as well as for his design of the Yale crew’s Gilder Boathouse.

Alumni travel

This year, Yale Alumni Academy worked with School of Architecture faculty and alumni to create a series of one-week trips focusing on architecture. The primary audience for the programs were graduates of the MArch I program who were not able to travel during their courses due to COVID restrictions. Students normally travel with Advanced Design Studios and to Rome during the summer for the Robert A. M. Stern Seminar in drawing. Those traveling on these 2023 trips went to Morocco, Mexico City, and Provence. Faculty and alumni also regularly partner with YAA as trip leaders. In January 2023, Elihu Rubin ’99 lectured for the YAA trip to Egypt.
