Celebrating educators

Deputy dean Phil Bernstein ’79, ’83MArch, and Professor Alan Plattus ’76 have been recognized by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture with 2026 Distinguished Professor Awards. The award recognizes “individuals that have had a positive, stimulating, and nurturing influence upon students.” Bernstein has taught professional practice and project management courses at the School of Architecture since 1989; and Plattus, who is also the founding director of the Yale Urban Design Workshop, has taught studio courses and urban design lecture courses for four decades.

Honoring architects

The School of Architecture is mourning two great leaders in the profession who were also great teachers: Robert A. M. Stern ’65MArch, dean emeritus and J. M. Hoppin Professor Emeritus at Yale; and Frank O. Gehry, the globally renowned architect who taught at Yale regularly since 1979. A symposium in honor of Stern is being planned for October 17, 2026, at Yale, and one in honor of Gehry is being planned for Spring 2027.
