Voice professor named assistant dean

In October, Yale School of Music Dean José García-León announced that Associate Professor Adjunct of Voice Adriana Zabala will begin serving in July as the school’s assistant dean of collaborative arts and belonging. The deanship, a new role, was “created to facilitate greater collaboration within the school, across the university, and beyond,” García-León said, explaining that Zabala’s “dedication to nurturing principles of belonging and empowering students, colleagues, and fellow artists makes her the ideal choice for this new position.”

Faculty and students perform two concerts at Carnegie Hall

In December, the school presented a concert at Carnegie Hall featuring pianist and Dean José García-León and members of the faculty, including violinist Tai Murray, flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, clarinetist David Shifrin, and tenor James Taylor, along with the Yale Voxtet and the Callisto Quartet, the school’s 2022–24 fellowship quartet-in-residence. The program included music by Chausson, Pulitzer Prize–winning faculty composer David Lang ’89DMA, and Yale composers Charles Ives and Quincy Porter.

In January, faculty violinist Augustin Hadelich will join Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian and the Yale Philharmoniaat Carnegie Hall for a performance of Britten’s Violin Concerto on a program that also includes Joan Tower’s “Suite” from Concerto for Orchestra and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique.
