New music faculty appointed
Three new faculty members have been appointed to the School of Music, starting in the fall. Conductor and pianist Jonathan King and stage director Dona D. Vaughn will join Yale Opera; and pianist Boris Slutsky will rejoin the piano department after serving as a visiting professor in the 2018–19 academic year. Also joining YSM are collaborative pianists Mohamed Shamseldin and Min Young Kang.
School honors arts executive
This year’s Samuel Simons Sanford Medal—which recognizes distinguished service to music and music education—was awarded to renowned arts executive Deborah Borda, former CEO of the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic. “Deborah Borda has helped redefine what an American orchestra can be,” said Dean José García-León.
