Study considers link between opioid use and sleep
Beatrice Renfield Term Professor of Nursing Nancy Schmieder Redeker has been awarded a $4.7 million four-year grant through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) initiative Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL). Redeker’s program—the Collaboration Linking Opioid Use Disorder and Sleep (CLOUDS) Study—focuses on sleep dysfunction as a core feature of opioid use disorder and recovery. Funding is from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
NIH grant will support HIV study
Associate Dean for Global Health and Equity LaRon E. Nelson recently received an R01 grant from NIH for more than $2.3 million. The funds will support his project “Multi-Level Intervention Addressing Intersectional Stigma to Improve HIV Testing in Men Having Sex with Men (MSM).” The grant funds the study through 2023.
Professor named Heart Association fellow
Soohyun Nam was recently elected a Fellow of the American Heart Association by the Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing. This career achievement honors Nam’s research expertise in the field of chronic disease management for conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
Connecticut nurses honor two faculty
The Connecticut Nurses Association recently announced awards for two YSN faculty. Nancy Cantey Banasiak received the Florence S. Wald Award for Outstanding Contribution to Nursing Practice and Veronica Barcelona was named the recipient of the Virginia A. Henderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Research.
