Five faculty named 2023 FAANs
Five outstanding YSN faculty were selected as Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), a career milestone that recognizes their significant contributions to health and health care. The YSN cohort includes: assistant professor Sandy Cayo, a strong global health advocate; associate professor Elizabeth Ann Doyle ’95MSN, a diabetes educator who also covers areas of chronic illness/specialty care; assistant professor Zhao Ni, whose research focuses on using mobile technologies to prevent cardiovascular disease and HIV/AIDS; associate professor Monica Roosa Ordway ’97MSN, ’11PhD, who developed a sleep intervention at Head Start programs; and associate professor Hermine Poghosyan, who focuses her efforts on cancer epidemiology and survivorship. The new members will be inducted at the academy’s annual Health Policy Conference in October in Washington, DC.
YSN signs MOUs with Ghana universities
In June, Interim Dean Holly Powell Kennedy traveled to Ghana to sign two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Accra School of Hygiene. The MOU process began two years ago and was spearheaded by LaRon E. Nelson, associate dean for global affairs and planetary health. The partnerships will allow YSN to collaborate with both schools on research, clinical education, and advancing YSN’s mission of better health for all people. According to KNUST, the MOU will also enhance cross-cultural development among students and faculty. Future exchanges and visits among the schools are planned for the coming year.
