Six named to Nursing Academy

YSN is proud to have six faculty members recognized as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (FAANs): Christine Rodriguez, Shelli Feder ’10MSN, ’17PhD, ’19MHSci, Angela Richard-Eaglin, Nancy Cantey Banasiak, S. Raquel Ramos, and Mary Ann Camilleri. To become a FAAN, individuals must demonstrate significant contributions to nursing and healthcare. They must exhibit leadership, innovation, and excellence in their professional practice, education, research, or policy work. Fellows are selected through a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring that only the most distinguished nurses are granted this prestigious recognition. YSN will celebrate the new inductees at the annual reception in Washington, DC, in the fall.

Simulation team tools

The Simulation Team will be purchasing its first hyperrealistic manikin made from a 3D body scan of a seven-year-old child with Down syndrome. This new tool is part of a larger initiative to infuse a lifespan approach to the subject matter of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities within the YSN nursing curriculum. YSN is also working with vendors focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and Extended Reality (XR) technologies to explore how to better incorporate these modalities into nursing education. Plans for the furnishing of the inaugural XR Immersion & Innovation Lab are being coordinated, with tentative completion this fall. Upon completion of the space, the Simulation Team will host an Open Lab Day for our community to experiment with the new assets.
