Nursing academy honors YSN community members

The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) honored more than a dozen outstanding members of the YSN community by selecting them as 2024 Fellows, including six current faculty: Wendy U. and Thomas C. Naratil Professor of Nursing Nancy Cantey Banasiak; director of the Healthcare Leadership, Systems, and Policy DNP Program Mary Ann Camilleri; Assistant Professor Shelli L. Feder; Associate Professor S. Raquel Ramos; Associate Dean for Equity Angela Richard-Eaglin; and Assistant Dean for Simulation and Clinical Innovation Christine Rodriguez. Five alumni and one former postdoctoral fellow are also new FAANs: Nancy A. Allen, Dewi V. Brown-DeVeaux ’20DNP, Cheryl Chia-Hui Chen ’99DNSc, Jane K. Dickinson ’93MSN, Karen Kane McDonnell ’83MSN, and Marsha C. Sinanan ’24DNP. The long and accomplished career of Ramón Lavandero ’79MSN was recognized with the 2024 Health Care Leader Award.

NIH nursing research recognizes YSN professor

Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research recently saluted faculty member David Vlahov with the 2024 Ada Sue Hinshaw Award, the organization’s highest honor. The award is named for Ada Sue Hinshaw ’63MSN, the first permanent leader at the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health. 

Dean inducted into Immigrant Heritage Hall of Fame

YSN dean and Linda Koch Lorimer Professor of Nursing Azita Emami was inducted into the Immigrant Heritage Hall of Fame (IHHF) in November. The organization honors “exceptional individuals whose contributions have enriched Connecticut’s education, health, civic, and cultural landscape. . . . These remarkable achievers exemplify the spirit of immigrant success and resilience.” Dean Emami was born in Iran and moved to Sweden at a young age.
