Honors for vaccine advocate

Peter Hotez ’80 has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Yale School of Public Health’s prestigious C.-E. A. Winslow Medal. This award honors individuals whose work embodies the ideals of C.-E. A. Winslow, the founder of our school and a pioneer of modern public health.

Hotez is a distinguished pediatrician-scientist, codirector of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development, and professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He is renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to vaccine development and his unwavering commitment to addressing neglected tropical diseases and public health disparities.

As a key figure in advancing global health initiatives, Hotez has led efforts to develop vaccines for diseases affecting impoverished populations. An estimated 100 million doses of these vaccines have reached populations in low- and middle-income countries. His dedication to addressing social determinants of health aligns closely with the values of our institution and the legacy of C.-E. A. Winslow.
