Alumni and faculty selected for 2019 Whitney Biennial

Ten artists affiliated with the Yale School of Art have been selected to participate in the 79th Whitney Biennial, which will run from May 17 through September 22 at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. The exhibition will include the work of alumni John Edmonds ’16MFA, Ilana Harris-Babou ’13 (an undergraduate art major at Yale College), Curran Hatleberg ’10MFA, Tomashi Jackson ’16MFA, Eric N. Mack ’12MFA, Troy Michie ’11MFA, Wangechi Mutu ’00MFA, Jennifer Packer ’12MFA, and Elle Pérez ’15MFA. Edmonds, Michie, and Pérez are now members of the School of Art faculty, and Hatleberg was a visiting artist during the spring 2019 semester. Faculty member A. L. Steiner will also be participating in the biennial as part of photographer Paul Mpagi Sepuya’s collaborative project.

MFA candidates stage exhibitions

Throughout the spring 2019 semester, graduating MFA students at the Yale School of Art organized and staged six individual-thesis exhibitions featuring their work, in the school’s Green Hall Gallery. The series began in February with the painting/printmaking department, which mounted two separate exhibitions featuring ten artists each, followed by two shows staged by sculpture students throughout March, and one featuring the work of MFA candidates in photography in April, before finally concluding with a graphic design thesis exhibition in May. In total, the public exhibitions featured work by more than 50 2019 MFA candidates across each of the School of Art’s four areas of study.
