Landmark gift will support core priorities at School of Art
A new gift of $5 million from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation will create a permanent, unrestricted endowment at the School of Art to help fund essential programs at the school, including financial aid, faculty support, teaching, visiting artists, and exhibitions. In addition, the contribution provides for the naming of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Dean. A second gift of $900,000 will supplement three existing endowments that the foundation created in 2010 to establish an artist’s residency, scholarships for international students, and a dean’s resource fund.
Since 1996 the Stavros Niarchos Foundation has awarded more than $1.4 billion to nonprofit organizations worldwide, focusing on programs in arts and culture, education, health, and social welfare. Including these new gifts, the foundation’s contributions to Yale University total nearly $14 million, and include support for the Peabody Museum of Natural History, the Child Study Center, and Yale College scholarships.
