Choreographer comes to campus

Yale Schwarzman Center hosted world-renowned choreographer Trajal Harrell ’90 and his dance ensemble September 21–24 for a series of dynamic events showcasing his innovative take on modern dance. A stunning performance of the Köln Concert in Commons, a conversation at the Yale University Art Gallery, a class open to the public in the Schwarzman Center Dance Studio, a Trumbull College Tea, a visit with Co-Op High School students, and a powerful performance at 32 Edgewood Gallery were all part of the experience. This was Harrell’s first time performing in New Haven since his graduation.

Ensembles acquire curricular status

Participation in the faculty-led, admit-by-audition Yale Glee Club, Yale Concert Band/Jazz Ensembles, and Yale Symphony Orchestra has been given curricular course status in recognition of the remarkable achievement and learning happening in those ensembles. These new courses carry Yale College enrollment credit but do not count towards graduation. This status recognizes this effort on students’ transcripts and protects their rehearsal and concert times from other curricular activities that might be scheduled against them.

Career Strategy hosts career fairs

In September, the Office of Career Strategy (OCS) hosted the first career fairs of the academic year for students exploring opportunities in consulting, finance, and quantitative trading. Across these fairs, over 800 students met with representatives from 35 employers to learn about the diverse career paths available in these industries. Additional recruiting events will soon follow, including the Engineering Career Fair Collaborative, a Nonprofit and Government Career Expo, and the Common Good and Creative Careers Networking Event. These events serve as vital springboards for students to network and shape their futures in these industries.
