New law librarian
Femi Cadmus began as the new Yale Law librarian at the Lillian Goldman Law Library and professor of law at Yale Law School on July 1. Her three-decades-long career in law libraries spans both academic and law firm libraries where she has taught legal research and analysis and technology in law practice to students and attorneys. Cadmus returns to New Haven and the Law School where she served as associate director for administration from 2008 to 2011. Following her time at Yale, she served as Edward Cornell Law Librarian and professor of the practice at Cornell Law School before joining Duke Law as its library director.
Professor receives ABA award
William N. Eskridge Jr. ’78JD, John A. Garver Professor of Jurisprudence, has been awarded the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award for Books for Marriage Equality: From Outlaws to In-Laws, his book with coauthor Christopher Riano. The Silver Gavel Awards have been given annually since 1958 in recognition of exemplary works in the arts and media, in categories including books, radio, television, and film, that facilitate the public’s comprehension of the legal system and law. The awards are the highest honor given by the ABA for this purpose.
Ethics scholar to receive ABA Medal
Senior Research Scholar in Law Lawrence J. Fox, who taught the Ethics Bureau at Yale for many years, will receive the American Bar Association’s highest honor. The ABA Medal recognizes Fox as a champion of legal ethics, professional responsibility, and pro bono work, and for his service to the association. Fox has taught professional responsibility for three decades and has lectured at more than 35 law schools on the topic. Through the Ethics Bureau at Yale, he has worked with students to advise lawyers on how to proceed when faced with violations of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and other ethical dilemmas.
