Dean elected to scholarly society
Dean Robert Post ’77JD has been elected to the American Philosophical Society as a member of the social sciences class. Election to the society honors extraordinary scholarly accomplishment. Post is an expert in constitutional and First Amendment law, legal history, and equal protection. He has written dozens of articles in legal journals and other publications, and numerous books. He joined the Yale Law faculty in 2003 and was named dean and Sol & Lillian Goldman Professor of Law in 2009. He is also a member of the American Law Institute and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Supporting global justice and women’s rights initiatives
A new enterprise, the Gruber Foundation at Yale University, will include among its three major initiatives the Gruber Program for Global Justice and Women’s Rights at Yale Law School. This program will support the Law School’s annual Global Constitutionalism Seminar and establish the Gruber Distinguished Global Justice and Women’s Rights Lectures and the Gruber Global Justice and Women’s Rights Fellowships. The foundation is supported by a gift from philanthropists Patricia and Peter Gruber.
Professors honored for service
Kate Stith, Lafayette S. Foster Professor of Law, has received the Connecticut Bar Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the foundation’s programs and to legal services for the poor in Connecticut. Stith joined the foundation’s board of directors in 1987 and served as chair from 1999 to 2002. And Justus S. Hotchkiss Professor Emeritus of Law Quintin Johnstone ’51JSD was honored by the Connecticut Law Tribune with its Service to the Profession Award. Johnstone served as chair of the Law Tribune’s editorial board from 1999 to 2011. He is retiring from teaching this year after more than 55 years on the Yale Law faculty.
