Oxford’s business school joins consortium

Oxford University’s Saïd Business School has joined the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), the leading consortium of top business schools committed to educating global leaders. Yale SOM is a founding member of the network, which presently includes eight schools in Europe, nine schools in Asia and the Pacific Islands, five in the Middle East and Africa, and seven in the Americas.

The GNAM’s mission is to drive innovation and create value by connecting leading global business schools, their resources, and their stakeholders. Approaching its fifth anniversary, the network has facilitated global learning, global inquiry, and global teamwork among its member schools. Its academic programs have become valued offerings for students at participating schools. A major conference in recognition of GNAM’s fifth anniversary will be held in April at Yale SOM.

Five alumni named Donaldson Fellows

SOM has named five alumni as Donaldson Fellows for 2016-2017, recognizing them for embodying the school’s mission to educate leaders for business and society in their personal and professional accomplishments.

The new Donaldson Fellows include: Danguole Altman ’85MBA, president and CEO of the biotech firm Vapogenix, Inc.; Joaquin Avila ’82MPPM, cofounder and managing director of the Mexico-based investment firm EMX Capital, and former managing director of the Carlyle Group; Colonel Rich Morales ’99MBA, professor and deputy head of the Department of Systems Engineering at the US Military Academy at West Point; Dr. Ann Olivarius ’77, ’86JD, ’86MBA, chair of McAllister Olivarius and a groundbreaking civil rights litigator; and Sandra Urie ’85MPPM, former CEO and COO of the investment advisory group Cambridge Associates.

The Donaldson Fellows program honors alumni from all sectors and across the globe, who share a dedication to solving complex problems and pursuing positive change in the world. It is named for William H. Donaldson ’53, Yale SOM’s founding dean, himself a leader with a lasting impact in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Fellows are selected from among alumni nominated by members of the Yale SOM community. The fellows will visit SOM on April 20, to speak in classes and engage in discussions with the community.
