Teaching financial skills to young students

On February 20, 25 SOM students and staff traveled to New Haven’s Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy for Global Awareness Magnet School to teach business and life lessons as part of Junior Achievement Day.

Organized by SOM’s Education Club, the event is a partnership between SOM and Junior Achievement, a national nonprofit that teaches young people the knowledge and skills needed to foster academic and economic success. This year marked the third time that SOM volunteers have taught lessons in business skills, financial literacy, and work and career readiness to K–12 students at the school.

Vibe coding at SOM

A new student-led initiative is teaching MBA students without computer science expertise to code with the help of AI. In virtual and in-person workshops, the students use AI-assisted coding tools to turn startup ideas or personal projects into working software—what’s called “vibe coding.”

On the SOM blog, founder Ash Duong ’25MBA wrote that the group is “about creating a space where MBAs can experiment without judgment; where we acknowledge that traditional career paths and problem-solving methods are evolving; and where we support each other through the frustrations and victories of building something from scratch.”

Early-career grants support professors’ research

Two faculty members at SOM recently received votes of confidence. Christopher Clayton, assistant professor of finance, was awarded a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development grant to support his research in the emerging field of geoeconomics, the study of how countries use economic power to achieve their financial or political goals. And Menaka Hampole, also an assistant professor of finance, received the Upjohn Institute Early Career Research Award, which provides resources for junior researchers to carry out policy-related research on employment issues.
