First masters in advanced management
The 20 students in SOM’s inaugural master of advanced management (MAM) class received their degrees alongside their MBA peers during the commencement ceremony on May 20. Launched last fall, the MAM is a one-year program for students who have already earned an MBA, or equivalent degree, from member schools in the Global Network for Advanced Management, an organization of 23 international business schools that connects students and faculty with their counterparts worldwide to share ideas, case studies, and research. The inaugural class’s students came from Ireland, Russia, China, Venezuela, Mexico, Indonesia, Spain, Turkey, Korea, South Korea, Italy, and Puerto Rico.
Global Network debuts case study
A new Global Network for Advanced Management case study, coauthored by the Yale School of Management and the National University of Singapore Business School, debuted at the Aspen Institute’s Business & Society International MBA Case Competition this spring and will be used in classes at NUS and at Yale SOM. It will also be made available for use at other Global Network schools. The case, produced by a team of scholars and researchers at Yale and NUS, examines efforts by Golden Agri Resources Ltd. to balance its commitment to sustainable, environmentally sensitive palm oil production with various political and economic concerns.
Conference explores partnerships in health care
Yale hosted the ninth annual Yale Healthcare Conference, a joint effort between Yale SOM students and the health professional schools at Yale, on April 19. The conference focused on the theme of “Partnerships in Healthcare: Cultivating Collaborative Solutions” and brought together leaders from corporate, government, and private/nonprofit sectors to discuss how the various sectors can work together to address the challenges confronting the health-care industry.
