To honor their outstanding research achievements, four School of Medicine faculty members have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Akiko Iwasaki is Waldemar Von Zedtwitz Professor of Immunobiology and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator. Haifan Lin is Eugene Higgins Professor of Cell Biology and professor of genetics and of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences, and founding director of the Yale Stem Cell Center. David G. Schatz is chair and Waldemar Von Zedtwitz Professor of Immunobiology, and professor of molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Günter Paul Wagner is an ecology and evolutionary biology professor with a secondary appointment in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences.
Online physician assistant program launches
Earlier this year, the inaugural class of students in the Yale Physician Assistant Online Program was accepted. The students will begin one year of online coursework, followed by clinical rotations in their home communities. This marks the first time that students not physically on campus can earn credit toward a Yale degree. “The goal is to contribute to the health care needs of the country,” says Robert J. Alpern, dean and Ensign Professor of Medicine, “and to give more qualified applicants the opportunity to earn a Yale School of Medicine master of medical science degree.”
