The volleyball team made a strong start in its effort to repeat as Ivy League champions. As of October 20, the team had a 14–2 record, and four Bulldogs had been honored as Ivy players of the week.

 

The quarterback situation for the football team was still up in the air in late October. Nebraska transfer Patrick Witt ’12 started the first three games with mixed success as the Bulldogs beat Georgetown but lost to Cornell and Lafayette. Brook Hart ’11 started the fourth and fifth games, victories over Dartmouth and Lehigh.

 

Yale’s polo ponies were left homeless in September when the university closed the Armory near the Yale Bowl where the horses have boarded for years. The 93-year-old building is in disrepair, and Yale says it was unable to secure funding for the work. The closing puts into question the future of Yale’s equestrian team and community riding programs.

 

After a championship season last year, Yale is the team to beat in Eastern College Athletic Conference men’s hockey this year, according to a poll of journalists and coaches. With 278 points, Yale was picked as the preseason number-one for the first time in the poll’s 11-year history.
