No plea yet in Annie Le murder

Yale lab technician Raymond Clark, charged with the September 8 murder of graduate student Annie Le ’13PhD (“The Death of Annie Le,” Nov/Dec 2009), has not yet entered a plea in the case, although his attorney says he intends to plead not guilty. The arrest warrant and search warrant affidavits in the case were released in November and December. The documents include suggestions by police that Clark tried to hide evidence and clean up the crime scene in the presence of investigators, along with descriptions of blood-stained items—which police suspect belonged to Clark—found hidden in the lab building where the murder took place.

Capital campaign still on track

While the recession has taken its toll on the Yale endowment, the university’s Yale Tomorrow capital campaign (“‘Yale Tomorrow’ Begins Today,” Nov/Dec 2006) does not appear to have been hit hard. The development office announced in November that as of June 30, 2009—three years into the five-year public campaign—donors had given or pledged $2.719 billion, or 77.7 percent of the $3.5 billion goal. (The goal was increased from $3 billion in 2008.) The campaign is 9 percent ahead of the straight line projection to meet its goal by June 2011.

Settlement in suit over online comments

The two Yale law students who sued over crude sexual comments about them on an online message board (From the Editor, July/Aug 2007) have settled with “a handful of folks,” their lawyers told the Hartford Courant. The terms of the settlement are not public. Heide Iravani ’09JD and Brittan Heller ’09JD sued the operators of the AutoAdmit message board and several anonymous posters to the board over the comments, which they claimed affected their ability to get summer jobs. Their lawyers told the Courant they may still reinstate their complaint if they get further information in the future.

The comment period has expired.
