Humanities and social sciences students in the Graduate School will receive full funding for a sixth year of study beginning this fall. Until now, the school has guaranteed tuition, stipends, and health care to PhD candidates for five years.

 

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor ’79JD is honorary chair of the seventh annual Yale Day of Service, which will take place on May 9. More than 4,000 alumni, family, and friends took part in last year’s Day of Service, at 251 sites in 20 countries.

The Beinecke Library has acquired the papers of Paula Vogel, the noted playwright and teacher at the Yale School of Drama. Vogel, best known for her Pulitzer Prize–winning play How I Learned to Drive, is the first female playwright to have her archives included in the Beinecke’s Collection of American Literature.

 

Yale police reported two alleged sexual assaults occurring on campus within four days in January. In both cases, the accused was a Yale College student. At press time, no arrests had been made in either incident.

 

Yale’s ethnic cultural centers need more financial support and administrative attention than they are currently getting, an external review committee said in a report issued in February. Especially with the coming expansion of Yale College, the report said, the Afro-American, Native American, Asian American, and Latino centers need to have their funding increased and equalized.
