Reports issued after Yale Police incident

An internal investigation by the Yale Police and a review by an ad hoc civilian advisory panel concluded that officers acted properly in a January incident with Tahj Blow ’16 (“Police Criticized Over Treatment of Black Student,” March/April). Blow, who is African American, was detained by an officer who drew his gun after receiving a report about a burglar matching Blow’s description, including his clothes and hat. The police report called for improvements in policy and training in specific areas, and the advisory panel recommended body cameras for all Yale police officers on duty.

Senior’s plan: secret societies for everyone

We reported recently on the proliferation of senior societies (also known as secret societies) in Yale College, once reserved for a few seniors but now numbering around 40—enough for nearly half the class (“Open Secrets,” July/August). Now, Danny Avraham ’15 has hatched a plan to make the experience available to any senior who wants it. Avraham invited untapped juniors to sign up at a website; they’ll be matched with classmates in newly formed societies with financial and advisory support by Yale alumni. Avraham says 166 students expressed initial interest in the project.
