Victory on the Charles

Last spring, the men’s heavyweight crew cheered Yale sports fans by beating Harvard in the Yale-Harvard Regatta for the first time since 2007. Not to be outdone, this year’s varsity eight captured a more elusive prize in October: they beat the Crimson and 25 more of the nation’s top crews to win Boston’s celebrated Head of the Charles Regatta. The heavyweight Bulldogs edged out second-place California by 0.68 seconds, taking the championship for the first time in the 51-year history of the event.
