Three months after the Yale Corporation decided not to rename Calhoun College, President Peter Salovey ’86PhD announced in August the appointment of a Committee to Establish Principles on Renaming. (See page 29.) Salovey said the committee will develop “clearly delineated principles to guide the university’s decisions on proposals to remove a historical name from a building or similarly prominent structure or space on campus. After these principles have been articulated and disseminated, we will be able to hold requests for the removal of a historical name—including that of John C. Calhoun—up to them.” The 12-member committee, chaired by law professor John Witt ’94, ’99JD, ’00PhD, includes faculty, staff, alumni, and students.

A new master’s degree program at the School of Management aims to teach employees of central banks and regulatory agencies from around the world how to prepare for and deal with financial crises. The one-year Master of Management Studies in Systemic Risk will be offered beginning in the fall of 2017.

FBI agents swarmed the campus for a week in July, but there’s no cause for alarm. They were participating in a new program for teenagers called the Future Law Enforcement Youth Academy, run by the Yale Police Department and the New Haven field office of the FBI. Twenty-six high school students took part in the academy, which Yale says is intended to “promote future law enforcement career paths for young people throughout Connecticut.”
