Holloway, the Edmund S. Morgan Professor of African American Studies, History, and American Studies, was master of Calhoun College for nine years before being appointed dean in 2014. In a message to the Yale community, President Peter Salovey ’86PhD called Holloway “a calm and compassionate presence in turbulent times, and an unswervingly wise leader.” RememberedDiana Balmori, a noted landscape architect who taught for many years in both the School of Architecture and the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, died on November 14. She was 84 years old. Balmori pursued both sustainability and artistic intention in her design projects, first with the architecture firm founded by her husband (former School of Architecture dean Cesar Pelli), then with her own firm, Balmori Associates. HonoredFive alumni have received the Yale Medal, given by the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) for “outstanding individual service to the university”: Roland Betts ’68, former senior fellow of the Yale Corporation; Thomas Ketchum ’72, a volunteer fund-raiser and member of many Yale boards and councils; Susan Lennon ’85MPPM, chair of YaleWomen; James Lu ’77, a “global ambassador” for Yale and also a member of several boards, including as past AYA chair; and Indra Nooyi ’80MPPM, former fellow of the Corporation.
