A Yale-owned house at 406 Prospect Street (left) will become offices and common space for the Institute of Sacred Music. ISM will spend $6 million to renovate the house, which is across the street from ISM’s current home in the Sterling Divinity Quadrangle. The move will give the institute more space and make more space available for Divinity School offices in the quadrangle.

 

A university-wide center for “innovative thinking” will be established in a new building to be constructed on Becton Plaza, near the Center for Engineering Innovation and Design. The new center, which will have a part-time faculty director, will “inspire students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to seek innovative ways to solve real-world problems,” acccording to a university statement. Among other things, the center will host some of the programs of the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute.

 

A lawsuit against the university filed by family members of Annie Le ’13Grd, a graduate student murdered in a Yale laboratory by a coworker in 2009, has been settled. The Associated Press reported that Yale will pay the family $3 million. The suit alleged that Yale did not adequately provide for Le’s safety; Yale has said in the past that no further precautions could have helped.

 

The Yale Whiffenpoofs voted in November not to admit women. The celebrated 107-year-old a cappella group, which annually taps male singers entering their senior year, has considered adding women several times since Yale College went coed in 1969.
