Candidates, and a name change

Two alumni are on the ballot this spring in the annual election of an alumni fellow of the Yale Corporation, Yale’s governing body. Alumni who graduated before 2012 have until May 21 to vote online for Roger Lee ’94 (above right), a partner in Battery Ventures, a technology-related venture capital firm; or Kate Walsh ’77, ’79MPH (below right), the chief executive officer of Boston Medical Center. (Eligible voters should have received information in April by US mail or e-mail.)

Whoever wins, they—and we—will have to get used to a new name for the board that oversees the university: as one of several measures to increase transparency, Yale announced in March that it will begin referring to the Corporation as the Board of Trustees. (The official name will continue to be the Yale Corporation.) In a statement, President Peter Salovey ’86PhD cited “confusion” about what the Corporation is. “Many members of the community do not understand that this is Yale’s name for our board of trustees,” he said.
