If you were to ask current Yalies about their favorite young adult books, you would hear all about The Hunger Games or The Fault in Our Stars. For a broad swath of alumni, however, Judy Blume would be high on the list. Blume, who just donated four decades’ worth of her papers to the Beinecke Library, burst onto the scene in the 1970s; her books, such as Forever and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, deal with childhood and teenage life with humor and honesty. Timothy Young, curator of modern books and manuscripts at the Beinecke, calls the acquisition “a significant step towards documenting an area of literature that, while extremely popular, has not had much of a presence in the world of archives-based literary research.”
