Sexual misconduct complaints at the university rose 51 percent in the second half of 2017, according to the semiannual report from the provost’s office. There were a total of 124 complaints, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, and intimate partner violence. In the report’s introduction, deputy provost and Title IX coordinator Stephanie Spangler suggested that the sharp increase could be the result of “heightened national attention to the issue of sexual misconduct” that has “encouraged individuals to come forward to share their own experiences at Yale.”

Yale suspended the accused student shortly after the incident; after the trial, his lawyer called on the university to reinstate him.

A game of musical chairs is in the works for some Yale administrators as Commons and Memorial Hall are renovated for the new Schwarzman Center. Nearby Woodbridge Hall, which houses the president’s and secretary’s offices, will have to be vacated during construction. Those offices are moving to the first floor of SSS. In turn, the Yale College dean’s office and three other units will be shifted from SSS to other places on campus.
