This was fun, but I thought some of the entries were a little sketchy. How does Bye bye for now mean "TTYL?" And I didn't get 27 down, "Dons" equals Putson. Otherwise fun.
"TalkToYouLater"has long been abbreviated as TTYL on the internet. "Puts on" means "dons" as in "Don we now our gay apparel."
I will say this: 33 Down, as "said by a pirate" would be YAR, not YER. Makes it impossible to get 36 Across. Arr!
Great puzzle! Nice way to finish a reading of the Yale Aulumni Magazine. Learned some take history as well - as in 67 across “Berkeley Oval”
Thanks!
"Yer" is correct in Pirate-speak for "your" (as correct as anything else can be...). "Ye" is "you". Perhaps you are thinking of "yarr", which more of an expletive, kind of like "hey" or "yeah". Perhaps it's a contraction of "yes" and "arr"?
Definitely a Monday-level puzzle. Lots of fun -- thanks!
When I first looked at this, I was drawing a blank on everything and was about to toss it. Then I got a word which led to another word and another, and suddenly I was hooked until I finished it. Got everything right too, though I admit I had to go to the Web to look up a few personalities I didn't know. "Keatsian or Horatian?" You expect a Physics major to get this? But— great job, Caleb!
I enjoyed the puzzle very much, please make it a regular part of the magazine!
