“When they turned the stage lights on it was like, ‘Wow, I forgot what this feels like,’” says Talia Rothstein, a second-year law student with an extensive background in dance. This March, Rothstein joined nine fellow dancers in an open rehearsal set to the music of The Rite of Spring, by Igor Stravinsky.

The dancers, performing in an underground theater shared by Stiles and Morse Colleges, showcased new choreography by Emily Coates ’06, ’22PhD, and Lacina Coulibaly. Coates is a professor in the practice of dance and the director of dance in Theater and Performance Studies; Coulibaly is a dancer-choreographer and lecturer. The final production, celebrating the 110th anniversary of Stravinksy’s famous and ferocious Rite, will be performed by the Dance Lab and the Yale Symphony Orchestra in the spring of 2023.
