Although public health authorities warn that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, Yale life moved closer to normal in the late spring, with commencement and reunions taking place in something like their pre-pandemic forms. Some news:
• Daily positive cases among students, faculty, and staff in the spring semester peaked at 132 on May 9 before tapering off as the term ended.
• The university retired its color-coded alert level system at the end of the spring semester after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rolled out a new system reporting COVID community levels by county. New Haven County’s community level was medium in early June.
• As of April 1, Yale requires all students, faculty, staff, and postdocs to receive a booster shot in addition to the previous vaccine requirement, with the usual medical and religious exemptions.
• In-person summer programs returned in June for the first time since 2019, with vaccinations and boosters required for participants.
