In the Music Shed at Yale’s summer music school in Norfolk, Connecticut, on July 30, six string players performed an extraordinary piece by the little-known composer Erwin Schulhoff (1894–1942)—who was outré enough that he once composed a piece made up only of rests. Three of the performers were highly advanced students, and three were virtuosi. For more about the players and about music at Norfolk, see “From the Editor.”
