Through his 30 years as a minister in North Carolina, Bishop William J. Barber II has become well known as an advocate for social and economic justice, through efforts like the Moral Mondays movement. Now, he’s coming to Yale Divinity School as founding director of its new Center for Public Theology and Public Policy. The center will be “a hub for the study, research, and practice of framing and implementing moral public theology in the twenty-first century,” according to its website. “While I continue the work of movement building, I’m transitioning my pastoral work from the congregation to the classroom,” Barber told YaleNews. “I want to walk with the next generation of moral leaders and share with them what was passed down to me.”
