Light & VerityBy the numbers: schools and genderGender ratios across Yale's 15 schools. Yale has changed a lot since Alice and Susan Silliman enrolled in the School of Art in 1869, becoming the university’s first women students. The proportion of women has grown ever since, and in 2003 the total number of women enrolled across all Yale schools surpassed that of men for the first time. This chart shows the percentage of students in each of Yale’s schools in 2022–23 by self-reported gender; students had an option to choose “N,” which may indicate gender nonbinary or that the student chose not to report their gender. As for the total numbers of students in 2022–23: there were 6,850 men; 7,687 women; and 239 students who chose “N.”
