A new addition to the garden outside the Peabody Museum pays tribute to the location’s heritage as homeland to the Quinnipiac people. The stack of stones shown below was installed in keeping with the Native American tradition of “memory piles,” stones left by travelers in a specific spot as acts of remembrance. Some smaller stones are provided in the vessel in the foreground for visitors to add to the pile.
