Light & VerityA short walk to the stationHousing and commercial space for the area around Union Station. ![]() Connecticut DotView full imageSince it was built in 1920, New Haven’s Union Station has always felt a little remote from the center of the city. Moving Union Station isn’t practical, but what if the area around it could become denser and livelier? That’s the thinking behind Connecticut’s plan to build a $316 million mixed-use “transit-oriented development” on a state-owned parking lot next to the station. Scheduled for completion by 2031, the complex (lower left in rendering) will include 470 apartments and more than 28,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. Meanwhile, the site of the Church Street South housing project across from the station is now vacant and awaiting redevelopment.
