I served under LtCol Whipple 1974-1975 as a Sergeant and had a great respect for the man beyond just his rank.
I served under Col Whipple when he was battalion commander of 1st Battalion 6th Marines in 1977-1978. I was the battalion Radio Chief and worked very closely with him. He was a dynamic leader and took good care of his Marines. It is an honor to have known him. RIP Col Whipple.
