In Remembrance: James Aiken Fisher ’42 Died on February 12 2014

James Aiken Fisher died peacefully on February 12, 2014, at his home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from complications after a fall in September.  Unable to qualify for service in WWII, Jim got a job at a war plant, the Alcoa Works in Niagara Falls.  In 1945 he returned to Pittsburgh to work at Fisher Scientific Company, founded by his father in 1902.  Jim became senior vice president of marketing and sales.  A devoted graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Jim was a trustee for many years and chaired “The Long Step Forward,” a capital campaign that ran from 1968 to 1971.  He was a trustee of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh for more than 40 years and continued to be active in the community.  He drove to his office daily until shortly before his accident in September 2013.  An ardent Francophile and student of French, Jim and his wife Toto made an annual trip to Paris each fall.  Jim is survived by Toto (Edith Hall Fisher), his wife of nearly 59 years; his three sons, George, Chester, and James Jr.; and four grandchildren.  His brothers, Aiken W. Fisher ’29 and Benjamin R. Fisher ’38, predeceased him.
