In Remembrance: Francis R. Coughlin Jr. ’52MD  Died on February 21 2014

Francis R. Coughlin Jr., a pioneer in thoracic surgery, died on February 21, 2014. He was 86. Coughlin, who served in the Merchant Marines during the second World War, graduated from Fordham College and the Yale School of Medicine. He practiced cardiovascular surgery in Stamford for 28 years and was chief of surgery for both Stamford Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. When Coughlin was 58, he entered Quinnipiac University School of Law, earning his juris doctor and beginning work as a legal medical consultant.
