A Whiffenpoof and lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the US Naval Reserves, he worked as a physician at a number of Arkansas hospitals. He also served two terms as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Arkansas Section of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
