In Remembrance: Matthew H. Gates '46MDiv Died on August 11 2015

Rev. Matthew H. Gates passed away in Lebanon, Indiana, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Born in Albany, New York, and raised in Meriden, Connecticut, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University before graduating from Yale Divinity School in 1946. He became an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, New York Conference, serving parishes around Connecticut and New York. A champion of civil rights and interfaith dialogue, Rev. Gates marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., protested Apartheid, and was a lead supporter in local efforts to build safe and affordable housing.
