In Remembrance: Charles B. Dayton ’44 Died on April 3 2017

Charles Bliss Dayton, class of 1944, died April 3, 2017,  at a hospice house in Scarborough, Maine, of complications from a fall. He was 94. Born December 22, 1922, in the Yale-in-China Hospital in Changsha, China, to Elinor (Bliss) and Arthur Bliss Dayton, MD (PhB 1911). He was a grandson of Charles Franklin Bliss (1880). “Charlie” graduated early to serve in the US Navy during WWII. After his service he worked for financial departments of the New Haven Railroad and its successors until his retirement. He married Constance Olson in 1953 and they lived in North Haven, Connecticut, for the next 47 years before moving to Falmouth, Maine, in 2001. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Arthur B. Dayton Jr. (School of Engineering 1948). He is survived by his wife, Connie; his four children, including Nancy Dayton Houston ’84Mphil (anthropology) and her husband Stephen Houston ’87PhD (anthropology); and nine grandchildren, including Timothy Follo ’16, grateful recipient of a Class of ’44 scholarship.
