He served in the US Navy during World War II, then worked on Wall Street for ten years before following his musical talents into composition. He composed more than 120 works and founded the American Composers Orchestra, which has premiered works of more than 800 American composers. At Yale Francis was a member of the Whiffenpoofs of 1943. we will miss frances thorne very . he was a good person, so talented, he knew so much beautiful music that he composed, in italy, france, and performed at the restaurant called the knickerbocker, in new york city. such a talented man, but a nice person.....
