In Remembrance: David Carlson Smith '64 Died on April 27 2017

David Carlson Smith '64, 75, passed away on April 27, 2017.  He was an attorney, writer, musician, publisher, and photographer.  He wrote a novel while living in Spain, The Vandals, about coming of age in Texas, and studied flamenco guitar with Triguito and Aurelio Garci.  David played bass with the Blues Arrows, and was recording the CD "Flamenco Blues" at his time of death.  While a contributing editor of the American Poetry Review, David completed his first translation, of Trilce, a book of 64 poems by the Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo, written in 1922, previously known as an "untranslatable book."  The translation was published by Grossman/Viking in New York in 1973.  He also published Amerikka Amerikkka by the Chilean novelist Fernando Alegria  He also published various translations of Pablo Neruda and Nicanor Parra.  He ran the limited edition publishing entity Park Row Editions.  He was admitted as well to the New Mexico state and federal bar associations.
