In Remembrance: Vincent J. Scully Jr. ’40, ’49PhD Died on November 30 2017

Vincent J. Scully Jr. passed away at his home in Lynchburg, Virginia, on November 30, 2017. He was 97 years old.  A Sterling Professor, he taught at Yale from 1947 through 2009, influencing generations of students who jammed into the university's largest halls to hear his legendary art history lectures.

Scully was a New Haven native, and served in the US Army and the Marines during World War II. He wrote more than a dozen books and won many awards, including the National Medal of Arts.
