Stilmar died peacefully at his home in Midvale, Utah, on December 16, 2017, after a seven-month decline in health. He was 99. He served during World War II in the Philippines, running early-warning radar. Later, with his electrical engineering degree from Yale, he worked for the federal government in air defense engineering and then for NASA in tracking and data at Goddard Space Flight Center. With his GI Bill benefits he also earned a law degree from George Washington University. He and his wife, Della, raised their three children in the Washington, DC, area. In their 80s they moved to Utah to be closer to their children who all lived in Utah and Colorado. Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, three children, ten grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. —Submitted by the family. |
