Woody was a pal from our earliest days in on the first floor of Farnam Hall. He had a few genuine bouts of sleepwalking. A tough-minded young man, who majored in English , always challenging at Yale, despite all the coursework he had to take for medical school. A Southern gentleman who did not share all of my Massachusetts-bred views on the Civil War. But unlike now, we were always Civil about it.

I wasn't able to attend his and Margaret's wedding in New Orleans. So I never saw Woody again after the day we graduated. I spoke to him a few times over the phone. Our last contact was last year, when he and Margaret were waiting to go into assisted living.

As a pediatrician he must have cared for many young lives in ways they will never fully apprehend.
